About MCA

Our bodies are always speaking to us and guiding us. Yet, too often, we don’t understand what our aches and pains have to teach us or take the time to tend to our physical and emotional well-being. Maine Center for Acupuncture offers month workshops and One to One Coaching & Healing sessions to teach you how to notice and interpret what your body is telling you - and what to do next - so you can live with less pain and greater ease in every part of your life.

MCA’s Community Clinic is an excellent introduction to acupuncture and its benefits. The Community Clinic is a “fix-it shop” of sorts for all your aches and pains. It is also a great way to grab a quick nap.

Maine Center for Acupuncture was created to provide safe, effective and affordable acupuncture treatments. MCA is a place of learning, rest, and healing.

Post COVID, MCA has created an online presents to expand our reach with our monthly workshops and One to One Coaching & Healing sessions.

Ryan Nitz, MAc., LAc., founded Maine Center for Acupuncture in 2010 with the simple goal of helping people make positive changes in their lives.

Driven by that same goal, Ryan began his career in 2001 as a yoga teacher in Washington, D.C. where he helped his students to slow down, both mentally and physically, and begin to observe what was going on in their bodies in the present moment. This awareness created just enough space to make positive shifts in their daily lives (a lesson Ryan teaches every day at MCA).

After earning a master’s degree in acupuncture from the Tai Sophia Institute (now the Maryland University of Integrated Health) in Laurel, Maryland, Ryan began supporting people to live more peaceful and balanced lives, with less pain and greater joy, through acupuncture. Using acupuncture, Ryan helps his patients reduce both physical and emotional pain. Ryan also specializes in working with patients experiencing anxiety, digestion problems, insomnia or migraines. Because acupuncture can often help with the side effects of medications, Ryan also works with individuals engaged in cancer treatments.

Much more than just an acupuncturist, Ryan takes time to educate his patients on physical and emotional health. He believes that gentle shifts in daily living can help foster faster and more positive results for his patients’ overall health. Whether helping people live with less pain or to see new possibilities in their lives, the goal is always the same: to restore balance.

Ryan draws on his studies at the Tai Sophia Institute, his extensive experience, and his study of the laws of nature to create treatment plans that work. He also integrates the work of Dr. Tan’s Balance Method, which uses fewer needles than traditional acupuncture, and finds the method to be an effective alternative for many of his patients.

Ryan lives in the greater Portland area with his family, where he enjoys the wonderful theatre scene. You might even find him on stage from time to time. When weather permits, he can also be found chasing a little white ball on a golf course.

At MCA, we do healing differently.

There are four ways to work with Ryan. Which option works best for you?

One on One Acupuncture

is where you’ll work intensively with Ryan for an hour each week for six weeks, virtually or in person. You’ll sort through the “stuckness” in your life, as Ryan takes his time to teach you to understand the “how” and “why” of what is showing up in your body. This individualized service can be a real game-changer in how you live your life moving forward.

The Community Clinic

is where we use a strictly-acupuncture approach to help create a shift in your mind and body. The Community Clinic is a great place to address physical pain - think of it as a “fix it” shop.

Virtual Workshops

are one-hour monthly workshops to help you begin to work on specific topics in a virtual group setting. There will be a different topic each month - see our Workshop page to learn more.
